BABBLE's 10th year
Why is it BABBLE's last year?
There are many reasons and as a scene I think it's good to know why.
In the NYC Scene:
Originally when BABBLE started there was no local running annual exchange or workshop weekend in NYC, and we wanted to change that. We now have three workshop weekends Empire City Swing (one Lindy Hop & one Balboa themed) and Mezz Jelly Blues (Blues). Another goal was to create a weekend where the NYC organizers would work together, become more aware of each other, cross promote and have a cohesiveness in the scene. There is no where near as much over lap as there was at the time when we started. So both goals have been accomplished.
In the National Scene
When BABBLE began and for years after most people in the scene did both Swing dancing and Blues dancing and so making an event that provides it all only made sense. These days the Blues and the Balboa scene have grown to be their own stand alone scenes, it's been amazing to watch. Since both sides have been growing, it then leaves BABBLE for the past three years getting this feedback equally 'I want more Blues' and 'I want more Swing.' As much as we see that this means we're doing it 'right,' since the requests are equal, we also don't want to fight the scene when these are the requests but want to provide an event that's wanted to have both and perhaps these needs are being met by the other dance weekends.
So in conclusion please come back to NYC, we have a lot of events going on and our local scene is killer! But for BABBLE this will be our last year, we're going out with a bang and hope you'll join us for one last round, It will be not only our last year but our 10th year of BABBLE-ing. Come BABBLE with us one last time in NYC!

p.s. on a personal note, BABBLE for me was my first dance weekend... ever and I was helping out (go figure). I have learned SO much from this event from how to effectively work with creative and logistical people, to marketing, to managing, to just how required it is to take care of your self so you produce good work, and much more. I have also seen some AMAZING shit, really, people can be incredible, flexible, open heartedly honest, gifting, talented (not just in dancing)... I've seen relationships created, developed, parted or were so present in happiness just for a 3 minute dance. It's so great. All myself and each team member can do is set up the weekend and then you show up and make it what it is and what a weekend BABBLE has been, thank you. Thank you for what you bring in the room, it is SO GLORIOUS.
